Ketone
A ketone is a specific type of compound that contains a carbonyl group (C=O) bonded to two carbon atoms.
It is represented by the general formula R₂C=O, where R represents alkyl or aryl groups.
The carbonyl group in a ketone is located in the middle of a carbon chain, bonded to two other carbon atoms.
Ketones are named by replacing the -e suffix of the parent hydrocarbon with -one.
Common examples of ketones include acetone (CH₃COCH₃), propanone (CH₃COCH₂CH₃), and acetophenone (C₆H₅COCH₃).
